Happy New Year 🎆

As tempting as it is to look only forward to what the new year has in store for us, let’s stop and look back one more time.

What did you notice this year?

Did you, by any chance, face a ridiculous amount of obstacles? More than any other year, it seems?

Or was that just me?

Is it just me thinking we’re being collectively given opportunity after opportunity to let go of old ways of coping and to try something new?

Something less harmful. Something more nurturing.

Even as I’ve been writing this newsletter about this very topic I got to practice what I preach A LOT this past year. Nothing major, just a lot.

Maybe I’m just now paying enough attention to notice.

Enough about me.

What did YOU notice? What 2023 pattern or detail or shift wants to be noticed by YOU?

Drop me a line to let me know. I always love to hear back from you. Better yet, if you’re local, stop by my office at the Benton Plaza and share your thoughts the slow, old-fashioned way on my community wall.

Here are my 2023-2024 questions to you:

  1. What do you want to let go of? What needs forgiveness? (whether you are quite ready or not, write it down.)

  2. What do you want to carry with you into 2024? What are you grateful for? (insights, new habits, connections, practices, achievements, etc.)

  3. What do you want to open yourself up to? Writing it down is an active way of inviting experiences into our life rather than passively waiting to undergo them.

Keep noticing. Dream big.

With love and support,

Mary B.

P.S. I was thrilled to receive your haikus! Please, keep them coming. If you thought of writing one and didn’t get to it, there’s always today. Or tomorrow. Don’t let these small opportunities for leaning in and sharing go by. That’s where the joy is!

P.P.S. Our next Journal Doodle Circle is this Wednesday. It’s an intentional space for practicing the life-giving skill of noticing and meeting ourselves and others where we are. To sign up or be kept informed of gathering dates, click here

P.P.P.S. Work with me 1:1. If you want to turn your anxiety and insecurity into powerful art or a creative project, I’m here to guide you through. Read more here.
